Emblematic organising CROSS BORDER EXCHANGE BETWEEN ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE
On the 22nd and 23rd March The representatives of the communes of Baillestavy, Ille sur Tet, La Bastide and Rodes met their counterparts from the municipalities of the Catalan Pyrenees in the villages of Saldes, Gisclareny, Vallcebre and the president of the community of municipalities of Bergueda, on the sidelines of the fourth transnational meeting of the Interreg Med EMbleMatiC cooperation project: emblematic Mediterranean mountains as coastal destinations of excellence.
Since the end of 2017, the SM Canigó is the leader of this project bringing together 10 partners from 5 countries around a common goal: to create and test a new form of sustainable tourism in the coastal hinterland area (our balconies) through the creation of eco-itineraries.
On Thursday, March 22nd, after a friendly meal, the elected officials accompanied the technicians on field trips through the palaeontological center of Fumanya, the mining museum of Cers and the center of the Cadí Moixeró Natural Park before attending a demonstration on the traditional Fia faia (light torch procession of the 24th December).
This introduction allows them to approach through experience the major identity assets constituting the unique emblematic dimension of this territory.
The morning of Friday, March 23rd, was the opportunity to confront, between elected officials, their respective approaches to the following themes: practice of pastoralism and preservation of natural environments, exploitation of forest resources and development of renewable energies for local and public use (biomass and geothermal), initiatives to promote the technical and mining industrial heritage.
This meeting allowed the project technicians to close the study module during which a Greek contractor defined 10 criteria characterizing the emblematic identity singularities of the participating territories: they were tested by each partner by the organization of local consultation meetings and the drafting of a case study. This work allowed to reveal the strong emblematic assets of each territory as well as the first options for the future eco-itineraries.
The CETT partner (Barcelona Tourism School) is now responsible for preparing a “marketing brief” which will form the common basis for the design and promotion of all eco-routes
