On-site research Etna

The on-site research for the studying phase of EMbleMatiC project next stop was in Etna (Sicily, Italy). Project’s external expert with the support of partner GAL Terre dell’Etna e dell’Alcantara (Vincenzo Papa and Martina Indelicato) visited north part of Etna mountain (up to 1800 m., “Piano Provenzana” on the lava flow of the year 2002), the territory of the river “Alcantara”, a few typical villages of the mountain (Castiglione di Sicilia and Randazzo) and a famous Byzantine church of the VII century recording the awe-inspiring place and the breathtaking and emotional connection with nature.

Slow food and local products (a tour of the oldest winery in this territory famous for the production of the autoctone DOC wine “Etna Rosso” took place), the warmth contact with the ihnabitants and the astonishing landscapes wer recorded, aiming in the identification of the emblematic dimension.

It was interesting to study how people live on the slopes of Etna volcano that sometimes can become really dangerous, A unique peculiar relationship between the volcano and the inhabitants…
