2021-2022 EMbleMatiC PLUS Interreg Med transferring project

The transferring strategy of the EMbleMatiC PLUS project unfolds in three phases to adapt the steps described within the “transfer guide” into a “transfer process” applied by each receiver and adjusted according to its own context or transferability potential.

Phase 1

Givers’ dissemination to receivers of transfer guide & pasts achievements: completed by October 2021 with two webinars and a transnational meeting for receivers to have their own experience of existing eco-itineraries.

Phase 2

Receivers’ transferability diagnostic relying on transfer guide: completed by April 2022 following two stages working period:

Stage 1: Receivers worked with CT for four months on compliance of all considered aspects of their future eco-itinerary with the attributes defined on the emblematic TOR.

Stage 2: The Assessing team visited each receiver for an on-site assessment visit consisting of an on-site cross-analysis & peer review (3 givers & 1 assessor) on the first receiver’s initial proposal of potential eco-itinerary route, activities, stakeholders…

This full assessment process and results are summarized into each receiver project output “Transferability diagnosis” released in April 2022 and available here:

Phase 3

Receiver’ local implementation action plan for their eco-itinerary:

For this final stage of the transferring process, receivers have been asked to use the insights and personalised recommendations from this diagnosis, to elaborate and write an individualised local implementation action plan for the future creation of their eco-itinerary beyond the duration of this current project. This should ultimately provide the receiver with a roadmap to create a new and alternative tourism product offer for its visitors.

2016-2019 EMbleMatiC Interreg MED Cooperation project

Partner CETT has capitalized on the results of the study to transform them into a more operational shared frame of reference for each partner to launch its own pilot action. A marketing brief for an EMbleMatiC SLOW TOURISM PRODUCT in the coastal Mediterranean mountains area was drafted and 9 EMbleMatiC slow tourism eco-itineraries (ecojourneys) were created: each one developing the emblematic dimension specific to each partner territory whilst including the common emblematic elements listed in the marketing brief.

For the phase an Experimentation Report (ER) that contains the results of the evaluation that was carried out to assess transfer and capitalisation possibilities of the project was drafted. The objective of the ER is to highlight the testing initiative’s strengths and weaknesses, the difficulties encountered during the process and, not least, to capture some learnings and recommendations in view of dissemination outside the boundaries of the Emblematic Mediterranean Mountains network partners. In other words: the ER provides a general overview of the design and implementation process of the nine Ecojourneys.

The Experimentation Report (ER) could be downloaded here.

For our transferring phase

The purpose of this phase was to create the dissemination tools for the lessons we learnt and to provide practical recommendations. In more detail the following outcomes were produced:

a quality referential for the EMM (EMbleMatiC Mediterranean Mountains) network, as costal destinations of excellence. The Quality Referential has the form of a protocol and represents the beginning of a new step. It is also the starting point of a “quality brand” for all the future new eco-itineraries, which could be developed by all the new members of the EMM network”. You can watch the quality referential here

a transfer guide for the implementation of eco-itinerary for Emblematic Mediterranean Mountains as coastal destinations of excellence. The Transfer Guide is addressed to any Destination Management Organisation (DMO) or similar local public or private entities willing to implement the scheme of the EMbleMatiC project and its product, the Ecojourneys, to their territory. Consequently, this guide provides its reader with that information necessary to understand the project, its origins, the partners involved in it, the process followed and all the relevant information that can be useful for a potential new member of the EMM Network. And what is of utmost importance, the outcomes are based on on-site experience of the partners and not only from a theoretical approach. You could download here

For our communication actions

A shared umbrella brand based on our sustainable and responsible tourism approach was created and several common communication tools were produced.

Each mountain produced a tourism guide and a map for the presentation of their ecojourney.

2 Handbooks were produced in six languages.

Project Handbook 1: “Project’s Results”. The Project Handbook 1 on project’s results constitutes the reference document describing the differentiation elements of the Emblematic Mediterranean Mountains network leading to the creation of nine ecojourneys, one in each involved mountain. The process includes the definition of the 10 common criteria, the presentation of the marketing brief and of the 30 attributes that an Emblematic ecojourney should comply with.

Project Handbook 2: “Transferring”. This is a useful tool addressed to any public or private organisation willing to implement the scheme of the EMbleMatiC project and its product, the Ecojourneys, to their territory. Consequently, this handbook provides its reader with that information necessary to understand the project, its origins, the partners involved in it, the process followed and all the relevant information that can be useful for a potential new member of the EMM Network. And what is of utmost importance, the outcomes are based on on-site experience of the partners and not only from a theoretical approach. This manual is divided in two main part, the first one is a practical guide with some suggestion on how to implement an Ecojourney, the second one is a collection of annex with synoptic tables and lists easy to use and consult for those wishing to be inspired by our work.

For the management of the project

Common monitoring and reporting tools for the management of the project according to defined methodology and Programme’s guidelines have been produced.
